Legend Anti-Cyano Kit

Overview

Cyanobacteria – act quickly!

Cyanobacteria are a real hazard in freshwater aquarium keeping. Green in colour with blue tinges, they adhere to the substrate, algae and plants in an aquarium, and release cyanotoxins. Cyanobacteria proliferate very quickly, and eventually start to kill your aquarium’s occupants. This often results in a crash, especially if the owner is away for any length of time.

Consequently, once they first appear in your aquarium, we recommend you act quickly, and apply the Legend® anti-cyanobacteria freshwater treatment which should bring the infestation to an end.

Effects of the Legend Ezella & Legend BactoPolly anti-cyanobacteria kit

The cyanobacteria will start to show signs of weakness from day four of the treatment. They shrink in volume and number as they start to die off. We recommend that you siphon the cyanobacteria and residue from your aquarium at this stage.

In the majority of cases, treatment needs to run for 5 or 6 days to completely eliminate the cyanobacteria, but if need be, you can continue the treatment for a further 5 days.

Once the treatment has ended, daily use of Legend BactoPolly®  will ensure your aquarium is once again magnificent.

Anti-cyanobacteria kit: choosing the right size

For an aquarium of   50 to  300 litres, use the 250-ml size Legend Ezella® & Legend BactoPolly® kit.

For an aquarium of 300 to 500 litres, use the 500-ml size Legend Ezella® & BactoPolly® kit.

Active Ingredient: Biocidal active substances 2.8g/L

Dosage

Legend Ezella® anti-cyanobacteria product:

For aquariums of  100 liters, pour in 10 ml of anti-cyanobacteria for 3 days.

For aquariums of 200 liters, pour in 20 ml of anti-cyanobacteria for 3 days.

For aquariums of 300 liters, pour in 30 ml of anti-cyanobacteria for 3 days.

For aquariums for 500 liters, pour in 50 ml of anti-cyanobacteria for 3 days.

You can turn off the filtration for 5 minutes.

Experts recommend siphoning out your cyanobacteria before treatment starts, and again four days into the treatment. Every 4th day 50% water change, algae residues are cleaned

They can indeed release cyanotoxins that are deadly for their other occupants. Continue to pour Legend BactoPolly® in the morning for 4 weeks in a 30% sub-dose, preferably pouring the Legend Ezella® directly onto the cyanobacteria, during the Legend Ezella® treatment and for 10 days afterward.

Recomandation

  • Although BGA are very reliable in the aquarium, an evident nuisance infestation can be counteracted with preventive measures:
  • Regular maintenance with a weekly water change of at least 50%
  • Appropriate livestock concerning aquarium size
  • Feed consciously! In other words, feeding daily but in small portions is better than vice versa. Food that is not utilized by the livestock, but lies on the bottom and decays, contributes to an increase in phosphate levels and can promote BGA and algae growth. If small amounts of food end up on the bottom, don't worry, this is usually unavoidable and will not lead to a BGA or algae bloom. If you have shrimps in the aquarium, you don't have to worry about a few food particles remaining on the bottom; the busy crawlers will gobble them.
  • Sufficient and even flow through the entire aquarium. Achieving a uniformly strong flow at every point in the aquarium is impossible. There will almost always be areas with little flow, e.g., at the bottom or due to obstacles like hardscape. Just make sure that you provide your aquarium with the best possible flow. Optimization is the motto.
  • Not only in the start-up phase of an aquarium is it worthwhile to use certain aquarium bacteria products to build up a beneficial bacterial culture for the biological system. Every time we intervene in the aquarium's biological system, it can impact the bacterial culture, which may lead to its decimation. The reason for this can be cleaning and inactive phases of the filter, cleaning in the aquarium, introducing new materials such as hardscape, and extensive plant pruning. Especially after such interfering measures, it is highly recommended to strengthen the bacteria culture with appropriate bacteria products. Because "good" bacteria compete with the BGA for space.
